Dear Rowville Riders,
As a follow up to an earlier piece about Glenda Signorini, I would like to report that Glenda has acquitted herself remarkably well with a second place at the UCI, 70-74 Women’s World Championships in the 33Klm Time Trial and a third place in the 113klm Road Race.
On her new sleek ‘Elves’ bike, built by Andrew Steele at LBS bike shop, she completed the Time Trial course achieving an outstanding second place. She saw a rider fall from the starting ramp just prior to her commencement, so with a touch of nervousness she set off and rode extremely well to bag the Silver Medal. It is worth noting also that many other riders, unlike Glenda, came with specific Time Trial bikes with aero helmets and clothing making her success all the more impressive.
Glenda followed up in her next big race by claiming third place in the 113 klm road race. Glenda reports that she rode with a few pelotons for some of the race, but much of the windy course was a solo effort. Glenda averaged nearly 30klm per hour for her 4.01.09 journey. Glenda saw two of her competitors go down within the first 3kls and many others from different categories crashed throughout the course. Glenda kept her head and forged on the achieve a magnificent and well-earned result.
Glenda has a love for cycling and her fellow cyclists and is a regular member of the Rowville Riders. Quite the inspiration. Congratulations Glenda on a marvellous effort.
Regards
Boyd Williams
