Gravel, Adventure Ride News

4 Feb by Brendan Cheshire

Take us on an adventure…….some of us want to ride gravel roads, and the ones that don’t, well they just don’t know it yet 😂😜 …. flat, fast crunchy gravel roads, rail trails, slow hilly mountain goat roads where we got to get off and hike a bike and pretty much all the roads, paths, unpaved surfaced that lie between tarmac and technical single track.

Unlike Road riding , Gravel is an ever changing surface, one single route on a dry day can be super fast and a wet day almost unride-able….This is the “The Adventure”.

Now I have a ton of routes I would love to do and take everyone on, but mine are going to be hilly and that’s not everyones thing, these rides are about “YOU”……If you have a route that’s awesome and think others would love to be shown a hidden gem out in the forest, along a bike path or coastal beach setting, lets here it.

So lets start to build a catalogue of Gravel Routes together as a club.

These are the caveats -

1. Saturday morning 2. 8am start time
3. Hilly ride (1000 Plus Vert) 40 – 50ish km max distance.
4. Flatter rides 60 – 70km max distance.
5. Start location, no more than an hour and a half drive from Rowville, but can also be local start location to us all.
6. This is the big one, You must have already ridden the route. (Mapping out a route in strava or Ride with GPS is one thing for the road but with gravel sometimes those roads just aren’t there when you go to ride it.)
7. Not as important but nice if the start location has parking and possible a cafe for end of ride coffee.
8. The duration of the rides are no more than 4 hours.

What I will need is a brief description of the ride outlining the above. Also if the route is ride-able on a road bike or only Gravel bike.
An exact Strava File from start point to finish, to post on team app so everyone that is joining the ride can up-load it to their device.

I have already had a couple of people express interest and provided routes, so please be patient, I a msure we can get to everyone’s route through the months ahead.

The plan at the moment is one ride a month and if interest grows to up that to 2 rides a month.
